Travel Soccer Overview
Travel Program - Competitive Soccer
The Arundel Soccer Association (ASA) travel soccer program is a competitive level of youth soccer. Levels of competition depend on the league played in, and the division. Levels range from competitive with modest skills to highly competitive. Teams are formed through a process of tryouts by coaches or may be formed directly by ASA as the need exists.
All travel teams demand a great level of commitment from both players and their parents. Travel players should expect more intense training, longer traveling to games and tournaments and higher team fees. Players are expected to attend ALL games and all practices - accounting for illness, school requirements, and so on. Parents must be supportive of their children, supportive of coaches, and should become more familiar with the rules of and the tactics of the game. Generally, practices are 2-3 times per week, and 90 minute sessions at younger ages. Games are generally once per week, but double headers are possible. Game days may be Saturdays or Sundays, depending on the league and season. There is no guaranteed playtime for players in any travel league.
Upon agreement to join a travel team, all travel players and parents must sign the Maryland State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA) player registration form. This form indicates that the player/parents have agreed and are registered and rostered with a team during a seasonal year (September 1 - August 31) and have reached a mutual agreement with the Coach to play on that team until the end of the current seasonal year. If a player decides to leave a travel team during the middle of the travel seasonal year, (i.e., because of a family move, to join another team, etc.) the player and parents MUST sign the MSYSA player release form and provide that to their Coach and/or Team Manager.
